Children and Families Housing Solutions

Children and Families Housing Solutions
There are significant housing problems in low income countries, mainly due to rapid population growth. These include unplanned housing (squatter settlements/shanty towns). Rapid urbanisation in low income countries is causing many problems. Many new migrants to cities in low income countries cannot afford housing. They are forced to build temporary accommodation in spontaneous settlement. These settlements are commonly known as 'shanty towns'. They are also called favelas (Brazil) or bustees (India).
Karamazou through its global network of low housing development partners in Europe and Asia focuses on providing low cost housing innovations which offers a range of affordable housing solutions to children and families in the countries we operate in, including microfinance, earth-cement building solutions and collective social housing. Our low cost housing solutions offer a sustainable alternative to burnt clay bricks, durabric, a cement binder mixed with earth that makes clay bricks more weather-resistant than traditional ones. It is environmentally friendly because it does not require firing, which is the source of significant deforestation in low income countries.
